Share Files, Folders and Drive Partitions Between Guest Operating System and Host Operating System on VMware Workstation

Hello Friends,

In this tutorial I am using Windows 10 Home Single Language on Host Machine and Windows 10 pro on Guest Machine.

To know How to share files, folders and drive partition between Guest OS and Host OS?.

Follow my below 👇 steps.

Step 1) Login into your Guest OS(VMware Workstation OS). 

Step 2) Now click on VM ➡️ Settings.

Step 3) Virtual Machine Settings: Click on Network Adapter, Here you will get three options under Network connection so click on the first option "Bridged". Then click on the OK button.

Step 4) Click to the search icon on taskbar and type "Windows firewall". Now click on the open option. 

Step 5) Click on the "Turn Windows Defender Firewall on or off". 

Step 6) Here you will get two settings "Private network settings" and "Public network settings" so under that both settings click on "Turn off Windows Defender Firewall" and click on OK button.

Step 7) Now go the Host OS and press   +    keys to open run command and type "control panel" on it and click OK button.

Step 8) Click on the "Network and Sharing Center" and after that click on "Change advanced sharing settings". Now click on the radio buttons "Turn on network discovery" and "Turn on file and printer sharing", after that click on Save changes button.

Step 9) Open command prompt (CMD) using same  +  keys. Now type ipconfig command on the CMD and press Enter button. I am using ipconfig command to check the IP Address of the Host OS. 

Step 10) Again go the Guest OS and here also open the CMD and type ipconfig command to check the IP Address of Guest OS.

Step 11) Now type ping command with IP address of Host OS on CMD and press enter button. So you will get reply from Host OS. It means communication is established between Host OS and Guest OS.

Step 12) Now Again go to the Host OS. So here on Desktop I have a created folder named "file sharing". Which I will share with Guest OS. So right click on the folder and click on "Properties" and now click on sharing tab. After that click on "Advanced Sharing".

Step 13) Click on the checkbox "Share this folder" and after that click on OK button and the close the properties windows.

Step 14) Now again come to the Guest OS and open run command and type \\192.168.2.8 (IP Address of Hostname) and Click OK button.

 

So after that you will be able to see the shared folder on the network.
